After the game last week, Gallatin Head Coach Robert Lassiter said that it wasn’t that his team was nervous. It wasn’t that the Green and Gold were tired from a 583-mile trek to Canton, Ohio. It wasn’t even the hometown buffet the team had eaten five hours before kickoff. Lassiter said, “The game came down to a team called the Canton McKinley Bulldogs.”
For three quarters, the Bulldogs capitalized/forced Gallatin miscues. By the time the fourth quarter began, Gallatin was in a hole much too deep and the odds of surpassing a 32-point deficit were insurmountable. Gallatin, however, would fight until the end, posting two fourth quarter touchdowns against Canton’s first team defense to draw the contest to a much more respectable 32-14 conclusion. Lassiter said, “Our kids did not come to play in the first half. We had a couple of miscues. We had fumbles. What could go wrong did, and when you are playing a team like this, you can not afford to make those types of errors and expect to win.” When McKinley took the opening drive 88 yards on 12 plays and added a two-point conversion for an early 8-0 advantage and followed with a fumble recovery on the ensuing kickoff, it became apparent that Gallatin would be in for a long night under the Canton lights. |

A year ago, the Bison found themselves on the short end of a 28-3 loss to the Seigel Stars. The 2010 Station Camp season opened a week ago with the same teams but concluded with a similar score. The Maroon and Gray managed to limit the Stars to one score less than a year ago, but found that they could not better the three-point output. The final from Murfreesboro displayed a 21-3 loss for the Bison starting 2010 in the same fashion as 2009.
Seigel managed to pile up rushing yardage throughout the contest. When the final buzzer sounded, the Stars compiled 243 yards on 46 carries en route to the win. |

Youth and inexperience dotted the floor for Gallatin High School Tuesday afternoon, as the Lady Wave took to the hardwood in a District 9-AAA match up with the heavy hitting Mt. Juliet Golden Bears. Gallatin has only two senior starters and is currently placing three sophomore and two freshmen in at starting roles, something Head Coach Bret Snow says will only take time to find a comfort zone.
“Our girls are very capable of having a good team. We have potential, but it is important not to get discouraged when we face a team like Mt. Juliet. They are a great team.” Though the games remained competitive at times, the Lady Golden Bears easily captured the win over the hosting Lady Wave. The opening game went into the books as a 25-13 win. The same score in the third game completed the sweep for Mt. Juliet. The second game, however, saw highlights of what Coach Snow had mentioned of the Lady Wave. Gallatin remained relatively close throughout the first points. Several rallies were had during the second game. Mt. Juliet closed the door after a Lady Green and Gold run, taking the second game, 25-15.

After stringing together a decent first half of play against a good Independence team a week ago and having already played the White House Lady Blue Devils to a preseason 2-2 tie, Coach Greg Harper and his Gallatin Lady Wave soccer team entered the contest last Tuesday night with high hopes.
That was of course until the Lady Green and Gold took the field. “Tonight,” said Harper, “was the worst performance we have had all year. We came out flat and they took it to us the whole game.” By the halfway point of the opening period, White House had established a 3-0 advantage. By the time the halftime buzzer sounded, the Lady Blue Devils had secured a 4-0 margin. The final goal came late in the first half. Defenseman Tatum Pryor was called for an intentional handball and a penalty kick ensued. Though Lady Wave goal keeper Brooke Alexander displayed an outstanding effort on the attempt, it managed to find the back of the net, giving White House a 4-0 halftime lead. |

I don’t exactly know how I arrived there, but I found myself sitting at the base of a giant scaly bark hickory that bore limbs hanging heavy with thick-skinned fruit. I could see that the ground around this massive tree of sawmill quality was covered with cuttings, indicating that it was a primary feeding area of the subject of my hunt. High among the canopy I could hear squirrels cutting their harvest. Their droppings of acorns rained down all around me resembling a heavy hailstorm.
Armed with my trusty Savage bolt action .22 caliber rifle and a couple boxes of cartridges, I was certain to prove myself worthy among my peers at the end of the day. |

Throughout the first half of play during Gallatin High School’s season opener against Independence, it appeared as though the Lady Wave soccer team would be able to withstand the relentless pressure provided by a talented Lady Eagles. So much so that at the halftime break, the Lady Wave were behind by only one goal. However, by the time that the final buzzer sounded, the pressure prevailed and the Green and Gold would record their first lost of the season, 5-0.
Afterwards Lady Wave Head Coach Greg Harper said, “During the first half we came out and had some good chances. I thought that we held our own against a very good Independence team.” During the second half, Independence goals came often. Four Lady Eagle goals came within a time frame of 13:41. |
