Motorcyle and school bus collide

The driver of a motorcycle was killed on Old Highway 109 North Thursday afternoon at approximately 3p.m., after colliding with a school bus that was en route to taking children home.

The accident occurred near Wil-Ro, Inc.

No children were reported injured, but the road was later blocked off by law enforcement vehicles.

Sumner County Sheriff’s deputies, EMS personnel, and first responders from the Gallatin Volunteer Fire Department were at the scene.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Due to the death of Sheriff Bob Barker, there will be a Special Election held on November 2, 2010.  The qualifying deadline is Wednesday, September 8, at 12 Noon.

The withdrawal deadline is Saturday, September 11, at 12 Noon.

Sheriff Bob Barker serves till the end

Sumner County's beloved Sheriff Bob Barker ended his battle with illness at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday, August 17, at home with his wife, Connie, and family and friends in attendance.

Known as a humanitarian, as well as a realist, Sheriff Barker consistently discussed the inmates of Sumner County Jail as people, “just like you and me” who have made poor choices. Sheriff Barker received many honors during his lifetime, including Sheriff of the Year 2008 by the Tennessee Sheriff’s Association.

Sheriff Barker ran unopposed for re-election to the Sheriff’s office this year, and earlier Tuesday evening was sworn in by County Clerk Bill Kemp and County Executive Anthony Holt.

Man arrested in death of young mother

On Thursday August 12th at approximately 3:00 p.m, Gallatin officers responded to 721 Lincoln Drive and discovered Lydia Gutierrez, age 27, deceased inside the home. Gutierrez had been stabbed multiple times in the neck. A short time later Joshua Singletary, an ex boyfriend of Gutierrez, was located at Hendersonville Hospital where he was being treated for lacerations to his hands and leg.

Singletary was interviewed and additional investigation resulted in the arrest of Singletary for the murder of Lydia Gutierrez. Joshua Singletary is a white male age 25 with an address of 3390 Tyree Springs Road in Hendersonville Tennessee. Singletary was charged with one count of First Degree Murder and is being held in the Sumner County Jail pending a September 15th court date.

Lewis new SRHS CEO

When the sales transaction between Sumner Regional Health Systems (SRHS) and LifePoint Hospitals® is completed later this month, Mary Jo Lewis will become the new Chief Executive Officer of SRHS, according to William F. Carpenter III, President and Chief Executive Officer of LifePoint Hospitals.

 The sales transaction between SRHS and LifePoint Hospitals is expected to close on August 31, subject to final approval by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court and satisfaction of customary closing conditions.

  “Mary Jo is an accomplished hospital CEO with a track record of achieving significant success for hospitals,” said Carpenter.  

“She understands how to work effectively with physicians, employees and volunteers to ensure the best possible care for patients.  She has the right combination  of experience, expertise, and leadership capabilities to lead SRHS forward during this exciting time of change.”

Since 1999, Lewis has served as CEO of Jackson Purchase Medical Center (JPMC), a 107-bed acute care hospital in Mayfield, Ky., also affiliated with LifePoint Hospitals®.  

Under Lewis’ leadership, the facility achieved remarkable success. In 2003, JPMC received LifePoint Hospitals’ High  Five Award for reaching the highest level of operational excellence in the Company.

Savannah developer, Kroger, city still in dispute
